Planchet defect on CA 1925-s 50c?

This coin has what looks like a dig right above the gold pan, is that a planchet defect?

    That’s a neat placement for whatever it is.

    This close up might help identify what it is. A possible struck thru?

    It looks more like a corrosion spot with a reaction ring. However, there is some residue in the spot and a dragged out patch of gray suggesting a struck thru.

    Is the holder too old for their guarantee or is there another option?

    What guarantee are you referring to? PCGS's? It's pretty much limited to authenticity and grade accuracy nowadays.

    Looks like it could be a struck through... cannot be sure without having it in hand for magnification....could also be a planchet issue.....Cheers, RickO

    Looks like a spot to me. Could be one of the reasons it 62'd.
