Hi guy's interesting lines on this Washington quarter. Now I know about lines on a Lincoln. Most probably a Die Deterioration, right? Can this also be the problem? One thing, just the obverse has them. Not the reverse? Thanks for any info. :)

    That would be a heavily deteriorated die that should have been polished after it was cleaned harshly instead it was put back into service on the press.

    Looks like heavy die polish.

    If the lines are raised on the coin then it might be heavy handed die polishing since the polishing would be on the die

    If it’s not raised on the coin then abrasive cleaning is probable.

    Hard to tell from those photos. Almost looks like PMD to me.

    It sure looks like those lines go over the raised letters to me. If so, that it is most certainly post-mint damage.

    The "Y" area has some evidence of a lamination crack.

    Some lines do appear to continue through the raised letters... so would indicate PMD....Cheers, RickO
