Did you wonder why it was in that section of the catalog?
I agree
I spoke to him at length at NYINC .
He is a walking encyclopedia regards 8 reales 1823 -1897. I really enjoyed the education he gave me and he offered to speak with and teach me should I have any questions .
He had some really scarce 8 reales in his case . Asking full retail . No haggling.
He gives you a price and then it’s a pass or buy .
I bought a couple from him .

Looks like the market is alive and well. The prices for the coins I saw were strong. Even the counterfeit pieces...
LOL you two. I was looking at lots and that was the only one I was tempted to bid on in this group. Glad I didn't.
Where are the pics of the coins you bought?

I will have to post when I get a chance .
At NYINC I bought a gorgeous 1818 r 960 reis. NGC grades 65. Terrific toning at the periphery/ devices and more subtle in the fields ... also with wonderful underlying luster.
While I was walking around I was thinking to myself that great coins are to cheap .
By great I mean very low pops and exceptional quality.
I got myself so excited thinking this I bought a stunning 1808 50 Stivers with fabulous luster as well as a gorgeous 1848 A French 5 franc Louis Philippe .
Both stunners .
Then I came to my senses again and said to myself I’m getting off track again .
However I sold a bunch of modern gold that gave me room to buy these quality crowns .
Other than what Mike Dunnigan had at his table I did not see any cap & Ray 8 reales on the floor that were either scarce or high quality.

Coins like this go to show how seemingly expense prices offered by dealers can in fact be a bargain in retrospect after the auction dust settles.

There was a scarce Cap & Ray 8R pattern on the floor. It was AU-ish.
Durango 1840 OMC. Made me think of you in the moment.
It failed to sell in the immediately prior NGSA auction, so they brought it to the show. The price wasn’t crazy either.
