drop it on the ground and see if it rings silver - it could be both of what you ask

Can't see someone trying to counterfeit an ugly 1 oz silver coin. Definitely ugly. Unlikely to be counterfeit. Either way, I'm walking past that, even at less than silver melt.

Why? 1921 2 Pesos is a slightly better date. And, what if it's plated copper? Still a big win for a counterfeiter.

I've seen dozens of 1909 Barber dime counterfeits. We locally call them Rochester counterfeits because they may have been made here. Silver plated copper.

There's also the Henning nickel counterfeits.

Presumably it became ugly after it was produced. It's not unusual for counterfeiters to dirty-up their products before they spend them to make them look more natural and to help hide their fraudulent origin. This coin is ugly but it would be difficult to authenticate in its current condition. A long soak in acetone may help clean it up.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Based on condition and pictures in the 2x2, I would not even try to authenticate....Nor would I consider it for acquisition. Cheers, RickO

Going to ask why it is an OR, not AND/OR, but post above me nailed it.
