What has been your experience with pcgs giving the PL designation on gold?

Have not attempted to submit any Au for the PL designation.

But wanted to add the PCGS announcement about more coins eligible for the PL designation on July 2, 2019, “ (Santa Ana, California) – Any and all qualifying mint state United States and world coins, as well as tokens and medals submitted to Professional Coin Grading Service (www.PCGS.com), are now eligible to receive the desirable designation, Prooflike (PL)....”

And the definition as written in the above link, “According to PCGS standards, a coin’s surface is Prooflike when there is a clear reflection in the fields on both sides as viewed from two to four inches away. A cloudy effect or striations may impede the reflectivity.”

They are tighter in their criteria than the competition.

I have found a very small percentage of what I thought were proof-like, have been graded that way of several that I have sent in lately. I say it has to be pretty exceptional to get that designation.

Do you think PCGS PL more along the lines of ATS DPL?

In general, yes. They have to be really good for a new PL especially.

I still like some of mine that did not make it.

Sorry, I do not know anything about Morgans to compare. Someone else is way more qualified for that answer.
