How often do you acquire coins?

TurtleCatTurtleCat Posts: 4,668 ✭✭✭✭✭

Thinking about how we wait for submissions to be graded, etc. it got me thinking. How often are you actually acquiring coins/sets? Obviously the answer will be different for a dealer vs investor vs collector.

For me, I tend to acquire about 1-2 items a month on average with an occasional surge in acquiring more. This month was unusual since I’m kind of getting back into the swing of things and ended up with about nine coins. Next month may only be one though.

    Collector coins...maybe 3 or 4 per year?

Gold bullion coins, about 1 per month. I'd like to buy more collector material, but reasonably priced nice stuff is hard to find.

    Usually, about once a month.

The key date Walkers are only about once a year.

I need to get selling so I can work on my 1936 and 37 Proofs, just have too much going on. Home improvements and two car projects are taking up my disposable income at the moment. I buy maybe a couple of reasonable coins a month.

    Collector, occasional seller

Lol. My wife is really good about letting me have fun with my hobbies and such. It’s a blessing for sure. I ended up putting myself on an allowance because the temptation is to over-spend every month...

Only collecting Roosies and Kennedys at this time. That being said, eBay and GC can be addicting. I can't afford 4 and 5 figure coins, so it may sound like a lot but $$$ not really. 15 to 20 a month.

I was on the fence the other day about an expensive coin.

My wife told me to buy it because I would not stop talking about it.

The coin came in yesterday and I showed it to my wife and she said: "Wow, That is really cool".

She sounds like a real keeper! ;)

On average, two to four collector or bullion coins per month. Silver mostly, occasional gold. Looking to knock off two or three bucket list items in 2020. Windfalls skew totals higher.

2-3 a month. Would buy a lot more if my budget permitted. Also, I only buy for eye appeal now unless I spot
    a sure "Flipable".

Me too. Can be 4 or 5 in a week occasionally or I can go several months without a purchase.

Not counting coins I've purchased to resell, I've averaged 17 per year, trending downward as it becomes more challenging to add new pieces.

It depends upon what is available in my area of focus. Last year, I was able to buy five coins I considered "significant" to my collection. This year it could be none.

Now and then.... Mostly an occasional thing anymore.... I have lots of coins that I have acquired over the years...I do not restrict myself, but I do have a couple of hobbies, so balance is necessary. Sometimes I buy a coin and a firearm...Fun times indeed... :D Cheers, RickO

Mine come in spurts. I may go a year without purchasing.
When someone sells a collection with several pieces I like, I may buy all of them.

I only buy when the coins are fairly priced and meet my high standards. Accordingly I might go months before I find what I want. Then I'll buy as much as I want. Most get resold to pay for the few I keep for my own.

I average about 1 piece every 6 weeks, but I have gone as long as 4 months with picking one up.
