You have one billion dollars in front of you...it's neatly bundled and stacked and the Federal Reserve notes are all the same denomination...the billion dollars ($1,000,000,000) weighs 11 tons...
Whose portrait is on the notes,all the same denomination, that comprise the 11 tons of money,one billion dollars, in front of you?

Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

The approximate weight of a currency note, regardless of denomination is (1) one gram. At 454 grams/lb.... well... it comes out pretty close.
22,000 lbs. of $100 bills = $998,800,000
$1,000,000,000 in $100 bills = 22,026 lbs.
You could buy a few nice coins with that huh.
