I have searched for several years now for an uncirculated 1939 double die obverse FS 101.
Recently I have heard some discussion regarding the number seven and number eight DDOs which look remarkably similar. It was pointed out to me that there is a die scratch in the U of UNUM on the reverse of the DDO 8, and the exaggerated horn on the B of liberty on the DDO 7, there are the main decisive die markers.
I am proud to share photos of my MS66 example, FINALLY!!!!!!!! In reality I am typing this out on my phone, but in my heart, I am running around yelling like Braveheart... LIBERTY!!!!!!!!

Those Double Dies are very hard to find. A BIG CONGRATS. I am still looking for several in the Roosie Dime series.

At one time I had two or three fairly strong Class VI 1939 DDOs that I found close to 30 years ago. I'll have to look around to see if I still have 'em.

There are only 4 FS101 uncirculated examples in the entire PCGS population, and 3 in circulated grades. Some of these are actually DDO 8 instead of 7. To me they are so similar I speculate they are of the same exact die, only the 8 could be a much later die stage.
The presence of the die scratch in the second U of UNUM could be a remnant of and attempt to polish out the dies and obverse doubling of DDO 7.
The established values seem incomprehensibly low when compared to the extreme scarcity of this example and the level of difficulty in locating them.
