At work we have 10 different types of band saws, from tabletop size to ones that have a table that is 9 feet by 12 feet and none of them could cut a cent in half.
This was likely worn down on one side mechanically like in a washer or tumbler or it was filed/sanded down on one side.

Could explain the nics on the sides trying to hold it while sanding or grinding.

I can tell you from experience that it was a file or grinder. I did this as a kid in the 50's to make it the size of a dime so that the ice cream machine could be fooled. It worked but so did I making them. Now, if I had just put that effort into mowing the neighbors lawn I could have owned that ice cream machine.
bob
Dryer coin for sure
Real nice pics! ... I agree with all the above.
I don't think I have heard the term Dryer Coin. How does that work?

My wife takes the laundry out of the dryer and finds a coin that looks like the above. Two weeks later she finds another one. Two weeks later another one. etc.
The very first one she found, she came to me thinking it might be one of my error coins
That's funny. I thought maybe the dryer caused these. I've found a few coins and even some currency in our dryer. I tell the girls that what I find I keep. Lol

Some of the nicest toners that I have come straight from the washer or dryer. SUN TRIPLE CLEAN. Amazing stuff.

AFAIK, many folks use "Dryer Coin" to describe anything that looks like this no matter how it happened.
That cent was manually abraded.....one side removed....Cheers, RickO
Maybe it was stuck on the bottom of a shoe and was worn down by walking down the sidewalk.?
100% a dryer coin for sure, nothing else has that look.
