    @tradedollarnut

Bruce, you explained with great clarity the difficulty and expense of assembling a Top Pop set of very old coins, specifically Seated Dollars. With an all in cost of $25 million for a set that you value at $10 million means that you had to sell about $15 million in duplicates. I am sure that Laura was indispensable to you to sell your dupes.

On another thread, I recall that you were enjoying a very nice Macallan Scotch Whisky. A great collection of Scotch whiskey is coming to auction early next year. The collection comprises 3900 bottles and is expected to realize about $10 million. You can check out the collection here:

    https://www.whiskyauctioneer.com/perfect-collection-mr-richard-gooding

The video of the display of 3900 bottles in his cellar is worth the look. I am saving some coin money for the auctions, but know I have no chance on the 1926 Macallans.

But you might be understating the value of your seated liberty dollars at $10 million if that could buy 3900 bottles of the oldest and finest Scotch whiskey.

I'd rather have the Seated dollar set and a bottle of Johnny Walker... :p

Beautiful set and great accomplishment. It's great to hear what it takes to build a world class collection, especially which sets had to come together to create this accomplishment. You can really tell that Bruce loves his coins in that video!

Here's TDN's favorite coin of the set.

TDN- I was blown away when I first saw that video a year ago. I have since watched it a couple more times and really enjoy it each and every time. Was this the hardest set you’ve put together? How does it stack up to the other sets you’ve assembled? How hard was it to sell her off after putting in so much blood sweat and tears? The set is simply incredible!!!

Seated liberty dollars are the coolest seated liberty coins in my opinion. Wish I had a seated liberty dollar. Definitely on my bucket list.

    Awesome set 👍

The seated dollar set was likely rarely out of it's safe deposit box and Wells Fargo armored truck. The Scotch whiskey collection was in this man's "basement" which is an extraordinary display of a collection. Only issue is that collectable bottles are in MS condition........and in the whiskey world, they have never been opened.

You may have to drill down a little from the link that I posted above, but the tour through the whiskey cave is awesome.

And the interview with TDN is equally awesome.

If I owned a set like that, I'd probably convert a room of my house into a walk-in safe so I could visit it every day. And I don't really care for whiskey. Now if it were the Seated dollar set or $10M in vintage Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, I'd almost surely go the other way. No offense to anyone with different taste or priorities.

Thank you for posting the video again.... What an incredible assemblage of coins. Even the video is - IMO - a collectible for coin lovers. I have had, and enjoyed, a bottle of Macallan's 25 year old Scotch....Very fine...Though my tastes will always lean to Cabernet Sauvignon...Of which, I have enjoyed Screaming Eagle 2003....Cheers, RickO

Wow! I've never heard of somebody downgrading their own coins - and putting them into holders/grades that they believe are correct. Pretty amazing.

  • earlyAurumearlyAurum Posts: 750 ✭✭✭✭✭

very cool to listen to Bruce's thought process and discipline that goes along with it.

  • Inspired70Inspired70 Posts: 636 ✭✭✭✭✭

My favorites are still the 1866 Hayes Specimen, 1873-CC Share Specimen, and 1854 Akers Specimen Those Liberty Seated Dollars are so fine that they shouldn’t even exist. I would love to find any of those under my Christmas Tree!

Liberty Seated Dollars are one of the hardest sets in Numismatics. To find these coins in high mint state and original condition is almost an impossible feat. The challenge, however, is what makes it so great! Takes a lot of passion, patience and persistence.

An amazing set and that’s putting it mildly.

Man, I would be happy to own just a nice original G-VG as a type coin! I don’t think I can string together enough adjectives to describe how remarkable of a set that is. Thank you for re-posting.

I watched this video before and now a 2nd time! Great favorite being the '48 in a 66 holder! Extremely gorgeous! What a set of coins right there!

A million here....a million there.....pretty soon it adds up to real money! Hey, TDN, what a wonderful collection. You worked hard, I'm sure. You deserve it. The fruits of your labor. You're up there with the legends. Very nice!

Amazing. Although I still enjoy my two modest type set examples, they are completely pathetic by comparison.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all. That was an amazing accomplishment Bruce. The strength of conviction to buy entire sets to get the coins you needed is inspiring, I've never done that move. Arguably the best individual set within the Hansen set now, perhaps as important as the proof trade dollars from a pure collector perspective.

First time I've seen the video. And I'd like to echo the 'thanks for reposting it.'
    The set: just...simply...amazing!

It's also the first time I've seen the real TDN. With a face that reverts to a smile as if it that's it's normal resting place and kindness in it's eyes. THAT'S priceless.

Wow! awesome video that I never saw. Its amazing the collections one can building with the passion and desire that Bruce has. What wasn't mentioned was most collectors with budgets smaller than Bruce can build magnificent collections> it just takes time, passion and desire.
Great Video Bruce and thank you for sharing it with us.
Happy Holidays and healthy and happy New Year to everyone.
