Blank Dime Planchet? Could it be?....

Hi Folks,

I found the following "coin" in going through some change. It appears to be a blank Dime Planchet, but I was not sure. I weighed it and it was 2.26 grams and also the exact dimensions of a dime.

Would anyone know if it is a blank dime, and if so, what would be the value?

If it does have value, does it pay to have it graded, even in this condition (or is condition not a factor with these?)?

    check your redbook, there's a section in the back that shows error prices (most common and blanks, too). Haven't got mine handy.

    I'll let the error experts weigh in but those beveled edges don't look right to me. Based on that I'd guess counterfeit before blank planchet but we'll see.

    It’s an interesting slug I think. The beveled edge doesn’t look right.

    It might have been caught/jammed in a counting machine,
    but that's a genuine Type 2 (upset rim) Clad Dime Planchet.

    I was going through a green box of 2008-D dimes (2500 dimes) and found 3 of them. They are actually quite common. I put mine into a flip and tossed them in a drawer.

    is that a clad with copper core? if so probably not made to fool vending machines, but damaged somehow to cause bevel edge.

    authentic ones without upset rim or worth in the $3-5 range.

    so this is only worth about $3-$5?

    Any idea what year it "should" have been?

    Would not be able to guess a specific year. Only reasonable guess would be a range of years they were made using that composition.
