Early Dollar sources

Hey All:

I’m putting together a set of 1795-1803 early dollars. Besides heritage and stacks auctions - are there dealers or other sources that would be recommended for buying? Looking at the VF range.

Thanks!

David Perkins usually has a selection. I tried to link it for you but it would not work for some reason.

If you are only doing a date set in something less than Mint State, you might consider opening up your search to include non auction dealers. I have a date set, minus the 1794, and I bought all but one via private treaty.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Harry Laibstain carries a lot of that type of material, as do many other dealers. Maybe try collectorscorner.com, or attend a major coin show.

CRO would be a good site to keep an eye on. They recently had a couple of really nice ones that sold almost instantly when the early bird came out.

This is a great series you chose to collect @oldUScoins. What was it that sparked your interest in this group? (I ask because I have been reading about the series, and it’s varieties, and watching auction results for a while.)

    Hey:

Over the past few years I've become more interested in early US silver - particularly bust halves and the early dollar series. In terms of the Early Dollars - the Draped Bust Design is one of my favorite coin designs, I enjoy the variations that exist in the series (ie. 1799/8 15 stars, AMERICAI, etc). Also being some of the earliest coins minted by the United States. All these combine to spark my interest.

BTW - thanks for all the responses.

    regards
