Not saying it is right , but, legality depends on "the small print" you agree to when you sign up.
Did you read the 3x? Pages of it???? or the 200 pages when you signed up with Google??

Today is the first day of the rest of my life

Sadly, an expectation of privacy is becoming increasingly naive.

This is a scam. Most likely if you call the show organizers they did not send this. Shady actors try to do this with a lot of different conventions.

not much different than the days of phone books (and real telephones).

I don't worry about it, I'm not really me. I've been incognito for quite some time now. Some people have dual citizenship, I have dual identification. Heck, I'll even share my phone number:

That’s why you have PO box, a junk email address, and a throw away or old landline phone, still got it over quarter century now and updated from micro cassette recorder to a new fangled recorder that does not take cassettes. :D

Always give them a junk email address to avoid spam emails like this. I call it my 'dead letter' email address. I check it periodically to clean out the emails.

I don't doubt that some dealers sell customer lists...do you know how many freaking snail mail and email lists I'm on? I must have 30,000 unread automated messages from dealers. Cherrypick a big dealer 5 years ago and still suffering.
