My series, my Mint, and no I would not even consider a MS61 unless it's an 1889. Then 1889's come dmpl as there were so few made so, If I was shopping, I'd do a MS63dmpl or higher.

As far as DMPL it would depend on the population of other DMPL's and even PL's. I was looking at the population of DMPL for the 1900-P Morgan, I was surprised to find that there were only 9 graded 60 or better by PCGS, and not a whole lot more graded for PL's. I would look at a few things like population for each grade and how many people need them for there registry sets as that may give you some idea how many others collect them as a sets (you can find that out on PCGS Coin Facts for one), if someone has an opening and it has a high rarity rating I might consider it if I were looking to flip, or if I needed it for my own set, ( I would love to have a DMPL or even a PL set, but I don't).
The only reason I even looked at the population for the 1900 was I had looked under the wrong date, I had intended to look up 1890, I was real excited when I got the mail earlier today and found that the chance I took on bidding on a $40 coin that had real bad pictures on eBay actually turned out to be a DMPL! Using comparative graded Morgan's from PCGS and NGC I can safely say it's at least a 63 DMPL but do not think it would go 65, Maybe 64, or 63+ I was surprised I was the only one that bid on it, $40 for DMPL Morgan... (Yes I know the difference between the finishes and how to determine DM Vs PL, You can read newsprint at 50+ inches on this one, maybe I can put pictures on another thread this weekend when I get the camera set up).

I’ve owned two MS 61 Morgans that I really liked. Both were toners. One was a no doubt 61 (lots of chatter) while the other was a bit of a mystery (perhaps a net grade).
Both cost well over guide for a 61.
If the coin has eye appeal, any grade can work (for the right premium of course).
That would have to be an 'in hand' decision for me.... normally, I would pass based on the description in the OP... that being said, I have seen such coins 'in hand' that were real beauties...Cheers, RickO
I don’t understand why people who don’t collect something at all think it is helpful to respond “no” to whether they’d pay a premium for a certain example of that coin. I collect Morgans of all types, and yes I would pay a premium for deep mirrors and cameo contrast. I haven’t seen any 61s with that look but I do own two MS62 DMPLs with very strong mirrors. You can PM a pic of the coin and I’ll give you my assessment. I already have an example of the coin in question so I will not be competing with you for it.
This was a nice one I found and had slabbed here, it was top pop and the only one at the time. I wound up having to sell it when I was taking care of my Dad until his death in 2008.
It brought a real nice price for a beautiful coin.
I wonder if this exact coin has been resold since I sold it back then. I would buy it back if I could, I always thought they undergraded it but I didn't play the crackout game, still don't, I might resubmit if I had it now.

Based on those pictures, that is the best looking 61 DMPL that I have seen. Normally a 61 PL/DMPL Morgan is fugly. That one might be worth a trip to the bean factory.

Great VAM and a 63dmpl all day long. Gold bean if you so choose.

If I can ever find it I will, maybe whoever has it now may do it. It might be in a registry set and someone could send them a message. Also I have a roll of ASE's I would trade if they would.

Great Morgan @Coinstartled !
Looks awesome from the pics and I assume a few too may bag marks keep it 61. None very distracting imho.
As far as a premium, I'm not sure if you mean a premium over a PL or MS or if you mean a premium within the DMPL market.
Congrats!

I have seen it in hand and am trying to determine a fair price. No pics yet.
Morgan? No.

Psst, Benjamin...two words:
Sixty one.

Appreciate the comments. Subject coin is an 80-cc Rev 78 with a dmpl pop of 44.
Coin is visually stunning and I have never ever said that about a low grade MS coin.
I'll will post it tomorrow if I pick it up.
For nice frosty cameo deep mirrored ones I have paid a premium.

I love deep mirrored B&W Morgans. That said, generally small hits and bag marks stand out more on PL and DMPL Morgans. I'd have to see the coin.
NOPE. I cringe whenever I see that type of coin.

No. Matter of fact I avoid PL, DMPL coins...

This indicates to me that you should buy it. Sounds like a coin that you will enjoy owning.
Collector, occasional seller
This was the Morgan that made me want to start collecting Vam's in PL and DMPL back in the day.
Very pretty for a 61 also would have snatched her up!!

Thank you, Ike. The seller brought the price in line to where it made sense.
Theres just something bout the black and white dmpls that dont get boring!! It amazes me how few of them are out there at local shops and shows.

My Washington Quarter Registry set...in progress
I like it, you like it more.
So why not buy it?
Looks like a winner.
Looks way nicer than 61. Reverse doesn't necessarily look full DMPL, but who can tell from a single photo. I like it.
Why not just call it a business strike proof?

That’s a wonderful looking coin, which can’t be adequately described by just a number and designation.
