Hey, I got a 2019 reverse proof silver eagle and there's only 30,000 mintage and it's worth $1300 ! B)

Wow, you lucky guy! All I got was a MS65 Ft. Vancouver Commemorative with a mintage of 14,994 but it's only worth $575 :'(

You poor guy! :p

    So true and sad.

My proof 1863 half dime with a mintage of 460 is only worth $800 in PF64 :(
But by ASE standards it should be worth just under $85,000.

I have heard from double secret sources on the inside that Duke & Duke is planning to corner the market... I believe Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy. Govern yourselves accordingly....

But at those prices ($800 for the half dime and $1300 for the ASE), the ASE is a great deal, considering the respective melt values.😉

Okay, let's compare 100 oz of proof 1863 half dimes and 100 oz of silver. ;)

Wait, that would screw up the half dime mintage, wouldn't it? :#:s>:)

Proof $10 Bimetal Library of Congress is a unique type (along with the business strike) with I believe a $30,000 mintage.

Coin is worth about $570 at melt and can be bought for $200 above that.

I have been looking for a Fort Vancouver in that or a higher grade for YEARS!!! Always too expensive. Stopped looking about a year ago. Now you say an ms-65 is $575? Better start looking again. I love that coin for personal and family reasons. There is a connection with that place and time and with those people. Dr. McLoughlin. John Day. Interesting characters. What a time. What a place. Those men. Nothing like them before or since. The Big Little Lost River. Antelope Creek. Mr. Warner. Mr. Weaver. They were there. And the others that nobody remembers. Family lore. I wish I would have been there too. Sometimes I think I was.

With a bit of patience, you should be able to get a nice MS65 Vancouver for $525 or less.

Thanks, Mark. The Vancouver is my favorite coin. Along with Capped Bust halfs. I don't own one. I've always looked for perfection. That's impossible. That's why I don't have one. I'll take your advise and settle. Thank you.

Best of luck. And in case a 65 won’t be close enough to “perfection”, you should be able to obtain a nice MS66 for less than $950. In each case that I provided a price level, there have been multiple examples which have sold for less. But I’m being fussy on your behalf. 😉

Well, the eagle is likely much better than a 65, likely a 70 or 69. If we compare a 68 Vancouver, we’re at $17,500! :o

    @Zoins

The percentage of vancouvers at 68 compared to the total mintage is probably 1 or less. The percentage of eagles at 70 is WELL above 50. Add in the 69s and were at Purell levels - 99.9999%.

You ASE non believers might ask why any coin is worth more than face or intrinsic value.

    Oh, wait, it's the DEMAND.

Compare your proof half dime or Vancouver half to world coins that are 1/10th the mintage and you would conclude that all US coins are overpriced.

True, but that's why the Vancouver is worth more at high grades.

    We have the following:

    • MS66 PCGS Price $850 PCGS Pop 408 NGC Pop 272
    • MS66+ PCGS Price $1,500 PCGS Pop 40 NGC Pop n/a
    • MS67 PCGS Price $2,500 PCGS Pop 71 NGC Pop 66
    • MS67+ PCGS Price $5,000 PCGS Pop 17 NGC Pop n/a
    • MS68 PCGS Price $17,500 PCGS Pop 3 NGC Pop 2

It's interesting that the PCGS pop is higher than the NGC pop for all grades above.

Supply and demand....the age old formula...If you have a low supply and great demand...voila'..high prices...one without the other, low prices.... Economics. Cheers, RickO
