I’ll be the bad guy - the coin looks rather harshly cleaned. Still, if you’re happy with it, that’s what counts.

I agree it looks cleaned. But there is something specific about this coin that makes it neat.

It was cleaned with the first Brillo pad?

Haha! Maybe but what makes it neat is the edge lettering is completely doubled.

Well, that IS cool. But your nails have PVC damage.

Well that is interesting... I agree about the cleaning...but the doubled edge lettering would make me interested....Cheers, RickO

When the doubled lettering is close together as on these examples, the blank planchet was stuck on the edge dies and did not drop into the hopper, and when the mechanism was drawn back to the starting place the planchet had another set of lettering - it was then manually removed. Doubled lettering that is not close together had two separate trips through the Castaing machine. A few coins have triple or quadruple edge lettering.

Most likely cleaned, like many Bust halves rolling around out there. Still cool though.

I have a few of these, and I thought that I was the only one to collect them.

Even neater are those with blank edges.

NOW I KNOW WHY I ONLY BOTHERED TO LOOK AT THE IMAGES IN THE OP FOR LESS THAN 10 seconds when nothing of ANY INTEREST AT ALL was visible. Yes, a very neat coin after all.

Here is my neat coin. Can you guess what is special about it? :(
