So this is the second year in row that I've now purchased my only non exonumia item toward the end of the year. I've been looking at commems daily all year and haven't seen anything that spoke to me till seeing this 26-P just recently. So with a lil Black Friday perk I pulled the trigger as I've been on Santa's "good list" and deserve a self-gift. Although I've sold quite a few OT's in all grades up to MS68 in the last 15 or so odd years and they have always been around I haven't owned one in my own collection since. When it comes to OT's I've always just liked the tougher to find toned 26-P, 28, 33-D, 34-D, and 36-S dates. The luster on whole series runs the gamut from the likes of satiny to creamy and although a high grade 37-D can be dreamy in hand the date just doesn't mean anything to me. I've always liked the first year issues like the 34 Boone and 34 Texas which are also tougher to locate toned. The higher mintage 26-S seems to have ended up peripheral toned in more albums than the Philly issue of the same year. The 26-P is more often found golden toned with brownish crust than with rainbow hues. The crusty examples appeal to me and maybe a dozen other collectors as they at times are seen with deep brown framing the map and filling the Great Lakes. Yet as I always try to think about an exit strategy when buying any coin have stayed away from such which could be looked upon negatively. The 26-P being the only of the tougher dates mentioned above that's priced closely to the 26-S has been artificially toned ever since the 1980's. Naturally with the type of surface luster on the 26-P they mostly just do not carry wild patina progression. So when I saw this example it had just enough rim hugging color to catch my attention standing out from the crowd. That along with the fact that I remembered paying Larry Shepherd 2 & 2/3's more for the last 26-P I really liked at the same grade point in the early 1990's just made this a no-brainer. Below for now are the sellers photos which seem a little over exposed from the light source placed too closely to the slab. Just posting as I'm eager to share and will post my own images once received.

So for now... Will It Be Pretty?
