Why doesn't the Denver mint make silver eagles?

Dumb question of the day. I know Silver Eagles are dominating this forum lately, so in looking back on this 33-year series, I can't recall the Denver Mint producing any of these - is that true, or did they ever make any regular bullion eagles without mint marks? And, if not, why is Denver not in the Eagle business?

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. They preferred to mint gold eagles.

I think Denver is just a straight production Mint. Having toured a few times, plus I work down the street, I think they mention this during the tour.
"70 percent of the coins struck at the Denver Mint are pennies, the Mint also strikes nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, dollars and commemorative coins. Additionally, the Denver Mint holds the country’s second-largest gold bullion depository, a treasure of $100 billion worth of solid gold bars."

Does this mean they do not have the capabilities to produce collector-quality coins, or that the powers-that-be have decreed them as unworthy of doing so, or perhaps both?
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
My guess is they just leave that up to the other mints, like San Fran who don't mint coinage for circulation often.
I believe they have done a commem or two in the past.
Maybe they can strike a rare low mintage Silver Eagle.

i recently went on a Denver mint tour and from what I heard, the issue is space. just like they outsource their 1 Cent planchets because they dont have the space to produce them there at that location. buy hey, thats just a guess!
Maybe because Denver is a "mile high" and silver isn't. ?????
A reverse proof on both sides with a D over S over W mintmark.
I’m guessing the mint will make a special double reverse, triple enhanced, uncirculated, recirculated, perforated, post consumer, cold filtered never frozen 100th year anniversary edition with a D on it.
Should be fun to see another 1 oz silver round sell for 6000x melt because it has a different finish and letter on it than the other 17 types of the same 1 oz silver round.
IIRC, all zinc one cent blanks come to the various Mints pre-punched. They don't punch Cent blanks out of Cent strip (or rolls) at any of the Mints.
I saw the World War II commemorative silver Dollars being produced at the Denver mint years ago (mid-1990s) while on an ANA Summer Seminar-related special Tour. The space needed seem very small.
As for the Silver Eagles, don't give them any ideas or we will soon have Proof D mint-marked Silver Eagles to contend with.
I would guess that they don't have presses appropriate, but if they can strike dollar commems, they should be able to do those. Capacity is likely the answer, it's probably a horribly inefficient process to set up to strike 30,000 of anything.

This is a real Denver gold eagle, why bother with modern silver eagles after doing this?
Edited to say that Denver minted 8 different gold eagles from 1906-1914, a combination of Liberty and Indian's.

A selling point would be if they struck them with Colorado mined silver.
The Denver Mint has not produced any silver-content coins since 2001. The last gold minted there was 1984.
For whatever reason, it seems the US Mint is not interested in supplying precious metal blanks to the Denver Mint.
If the Denver Mint made collector and bullion coins, the San Francisco Mint would be useless.
Bite your tongue!
They could and make it limited production and watch the set collectors pay big bucks for em!
a.k.a "The BUFFINATOR"
I believe the 1964 D Peace Dollar fiasco was so bad they figured why bother with ASE's....
Meantime, there are a lot of pictures of the '64D Peace on the internet....though none exist (or so we are told)....Cheers, RickO

You know, I thought I would get erudite, insightful answers to my serious question, but instead I have been getting very funny responses that have made me LMAO....thanks, guys!
They've done at least 1 silver since 2001, the 2014 D Kennedy as part of the 4 silver coin set.

yes so we are told
Thanks for the correction - I'm not really "up to date" with mint products - the last time I bought something from the US Mint was 2009.
Give them time.
I'm surprised the Mint hasn't tried to milk collectors with a mint mark series each with different finishes. We could have plain (mystery mint or the normal Philly default), P (I know redundant but that's never stopped the Mint), D, S, and W. We could further have normal circulation, satin, normal proof, and reverse enhanced proof finishes. That way they could sell 20 per year to collectors trying to build a set. Maybe they could also bring back a limited release Charlotte, Dahlonega, Carson City, or New Orleans edition. Imagine the frenzy over a 5,000 mintage Charlotte silver eagle!
The government has to have some location where the actual work of commerce can happen.
I’m not really an ASE collector but I am in for “cold-filtered” and especially for “enchanted sandblasted” versions.
I understand the cynicism over the ERP, but I still think the Mint is doing a decent job of engaging with the coin-buying public. If they do get too far off track, hopefully they’ll correct course like they did a decade ago, when they stopped with the gold and platinum fractional-ounce burnished W sets.
# Well they get a D for effort
