Nice job... great results for a first submission. Once you calibrate your eye to what stickers and what doesn't, those percentages will generally go up.

  • DollarAfterDollarDollarAfterDollar Posts: 3,215 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yes, features like starting grade, strike, originality and abrasions all factor in. There are more than a few encapsulated coins with green or brown PVC that they receive. They will get rejected with a little post it note.

I recommend polishing every slab with PLAST-X before submission. Doing so gives the coin it's best chance. Now that you have a few that didn't make the cut and a few that exceeded, really scrutinize those coins to see what you can learn.

If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

I've never CAC'd. Is it really setting a higher bar? Is it easier for the grader as they examine the coin outside of plastic.

Awesome results... I remeber my first sub. I went 4/24! Lol. I took it as a learning experience. Examined the coins that didnt sticker. I have been getting better with every sub. I went 10/12 with 2 gold on my most recent sub. I would be stoked with 3 gold in one sub. Congrats!

3 magic gold beans... Impressive... Are you going to send them back into PCGS to be reviewed/considered for "grade bumps"? Looks like PCGS is recognizing CAC, much more so than before, so maybe they'll accept their grading opinions too and bump you to the next grade or add a plus.

In many, if not most cases, adding just a plus (or even a whole point) will result in a decrease in the "value" and marketability of a gold-stickered coin.

Being a slab collector as well as the pretty shiny discs they contain, I will definitely be leaving the stickers firmly in place on the old holders.

That's an excellent point. And I agree!

So it makes me wonder, who would have the best registry set. A complete set of MS 64's gold sticker coins (pick your series) or a complete set of MS 65's (same series) with no stickers. From a value perspective it sounds like it may very well be the lower graded set of gold stickered coins.

Amazing how following instructions can work sometimes. I'll bet they get a surge of such requests with the new registry arrangement.

Technically, if you got a plus on your gold stickered coin(s) if sent in for regrade or reconsideration, you should still get a gold sticker if resubmitted back to CAC since they do not recognize plusses.

However, it’s very unlikely (and I’d love to know if it’s ever happened before) if a gold stickered coin is sent in for regrade or reconsideration that the result would only be a plus added. It should at least go up by one grading point, based on what a gold sticker implies when it is awarded.

I agree that “many” times that’s true. However, if you send it to PCGS for Reconsideration, an upgraded slab will retain the same Cert Number. If it just gets a “+” as the upgrade, since CAC does not recognize plus grades, then when sent back to CAC, they should then automatically reapply the Gold sticker. If it upgrades a full point, that same Cert numbered slab can then be sent back to CAC, remind them it had a Gold sticker, and then they should reapply a GREEN sticker. As @MFeld correctly says, many times the coin with the green sticker at one higher grade may have less market value than that with the Gold sticker one grade lower. However, depending on the coin, the date, and the grade, many times that extra point in grade, with a green CAC, could be double or triple the prior value. As such, it’s really on a case by case basis.
