Question on US Mint Uncirculated Coin Sets - non silver
I am working on a pretty substantial hoard of stuff and there is a ton of 1971-2000ish range uncirculated coin sets. What do you normally do with these? Cash at the bank, eBay, wholesale?
Thoughts?

Good luck finding a wholesaler for some of those. So many of them have bids that are barely above face value.
The answer varies by year. Some might as well go in a Coinstar. Some can be retailed. Very few can be sold on eBay because the shipping cost is equal to the price of the set.
Know the good ones, 1973 P&D Ike’s, the special 1996 dime, etc.
I have a lot of the mint sets... uncirc, proofs, silver.... all in a box that has not been opened in a couple of years....stopped buying them around 2007 or 2008....I keep telling myself I will go through them for any high grade specimens...Good idea, but likely will not do it. I will save the silver sets, probably yard sale the others in bulk. Cheers, RickO

If possible, spend the commons. Let somebody find a BU 1972-D Quarter in change.
My local coin shop guy puts those in the “more trouble than they are worth “ category.
Aside from the 1973 P and D Ikes and 1996-W Roosevelt, as mentioned above, these end up having the coins cut out and being spent.

I have liberated a lot of 1971 and 1972 unc sets and proof sets in the last five years. Other dates too from the post 1971 era, but those two years with an exuberant vengeance.
Sell them as a bulk lot on eBay, go double face value for the starting bid, let buyer pay postage. You should be able to move them all at once.
I have in the past bought lots like that and made a very good payday puting together starter sets in Whitman Folders. (If you have time that is something you can do)
If all else fails send them to me, I'm pretty sure I could afford 1.5 times face for anything in mint packaging.
If so PM me.

(I don't think the offer was to me, but...)
Game isn't worth the candle. 5 miles each way to the post office, and then gotta pay significant postage to get them to you. One loses less running them through Coinstar!
Startup some albums and use them as hole fillers. Eventually you can sell some completed albums for someone wanting one.

Flat rate boxes are your friend. You can pack a lot of Mint sets in a flat rate box.
I believe the 1987PD Kennedy halves were also mint-set-only coins.

Do they have to be complete Mint sets?
Check for the 1974-D doubled die obverse Kennedy half. Other doubled dies exist for coins of this era-images can be seen here-http://varietyvista.com/
Send the dimes to me 😀
If any (or enough) are in better MS grades (MS-66 or better) still, I would consider looking at the PCGS population counts and for the lower ones, the prices. One example is the 1971 or 1971-D quarter. Last time I checked, the count in MS-66 (or better) was noticeably lower than most other dates. Depends how much time you are willing to spend.
I know several dealers that still do pretty well with the Kennedy's out of Mint Sets. Card em up, put em in a notebook and the folks buy them!
