With only 500 available at that location, it might have been wiser to put in a day's work and try and order online!
Hopefully all the buzz surrounding this coin creates a collector or two

Yup then you wonder why the average guy gets shut out and then sees them for sale at twice or three times the price, Then if he buys one at the inflated price only finds out when he goes to sell that he cannot get close to what he paid, then people wonder why people loose interest in the coin world, what about the One per household limit, some people find this amusing some find it discussing.

What time did they start lining up?

Someone said they will have five hundred of them has that been confirmed?

Also when they say Central casting and so forth I'm assuming that the only ones will actually get one are people with an early bird pass that can line up at the mint Booth early no?

All that work and inconvenience for a few hundred dollars. My ass won't leave my chair, temp. set at 70 and a better chance than many in that line. Isn't the cold wave hitting the east coast by now, wrapping it up here in Chicago.

The US Mint may do this next year. A low mintage Silver Eagle is cool and a flippers dream. Good luck to you if you want or get one!

I blame whoever in the Mint (the director?) set this insanely low mintage - it caused far more than 30,000 people to hammer away at that website all at once and crash it. As a former IT person, I can only comment that the Mint's website got a free stress and volume test free of charge from its customers……… and failed. :-)

The flippers will love this issue, but collectors like me hate it - there are far more than 30,000 collectors of this series and it's unfair to those who collect it and lose out. I've been collecting this series for 33 years.

As far as I'm concerned the Mint's website got exactly the hammering treatment it deserved today.

Yep. That’s what D Carr did. Saw his items being flipped after low mintage sellouts and now his items are sold by him for retail prices. Fewer flipping opportunities on his items these days. Pages of eBay listings at or near issue price.

If this creates interest in coin collecting it’s all good😊

If I hadn't gotten one today (and I'm hedging on saying I got one until it actually arrives in the mail), there would've been one less Eagle collector. :)

I guess those guys in line are planning on living longer than I am. Life is too short to spend in a stupid line waiting for something you don't even want. I was at the ANA in 2014 for the Kennedy and was disgusted by the scene.

  • amwldcoinamwldcoin Posts: 11,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hmmm! I hate to post this a 3rd time but this was probably the best thread to post it on! Seems it didn't make too much difference avoiding the early AM wait from what I am reading here!

It only took the mint somewhere between 6 + 7 hours to process 600 or so sales today at the Baltimore show! That was after getting a ticket(most waited in line for) which then allowed you to return at 11:30 to get another ticket so you could go present it at the Mint's Booth to them to buy it!

I didn't wait for a ticket and got mine around 11:00...I was # 512. Others lined up as early as 4 am. You know who hired a casting crew instead of homeless people this time. Being a dealer I wasn't forced to wait with non dealers as they understood we needed to man our tables. I guess they figured they would be faster at the cash register. We were told we could get in line at 4:30 to get ours as they were only allowing so many in numerical order to go at a time after waiting to get their 2nd ticket. When I checked around 3 or so they were only into the 250's! There was a little push back when all the dealers started showing up at 4:30 but they let us go.

Evidently 1st day was a big deal to the flippers! I had mine sold for $1,000. Showed up at 5:00 after I finally got mine and they said that 5:00 was the cutoff time and would only pay $800 now(I was there a couple minutes before 5:00). Another guy in line had told me they were lined up to get $1200 so I boggied over there. Same thing but said they would pay $900 so I took it. Seems the big buyers preferred NGC's label this time as the PCGS submitters were less from the best I can tell. Of course someone needing 1 more for a PCGS submission showed up willing to pay $1400 after I just sold mine. I can't verify all this! Just my experience and cyphering through a lot of talk. Best as I can tell NGC's cutoff time was 5 and PCGS's was 6.

Shouldn't every coin get a first day label since they all sold on the first day in just a few minutes and the grading companies will know that?

What happens when your 2019 PR70 First in line, FS, First COA, Enhanced Reverse Proof ASE grows spots?
Any ASE is susceptible to spotting, doesn't matter who, where, what, why. Stay thirsty :)
The moral here is if you make a 70 get rid of it ASAP.
