PCGS Boxes must be recyclable, right?

I have a bunch of beat up ones and I hate to throw them in the garbage. There's no recycling symbol on them so the recycling company that serves my area won't take them.

Maybe PCGS can add the appropriate recycling symbol on them?

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I agree. A simple thing to do to show that they are environmentally responsible.
I suspect they are ABS but don't know for sure.

Is there a recycle number on the bottom?

No symbol on mine, it feels like a high density polyethylene

They're not recyclable where I live (CA).

My stuff goes in a large bin; its just dumped into the truck and away it goes. Anyway, everything recycled goes into a facility that has 10-12 sorting and processing stations. I'm sure that these boxes are of a plastic that can be reused for something. But considering what they charge for these, someone should be willing to take them off your hands.

If they are just beat up and not broken I am sure someone could use them to transport slabs to shows, etc.

Recycling is at the very end of the line. I suspect you might not be there yet....

Most of the time fees and cost of postage does not make sense to me on eBay. Old broke one's go in the trash.

Clean, good condition single blue boxes have been selling on eBay for $5/$6, postage included. Seems like a lot of work for not much (if any) money trying to sell and ship beat up ones in competition with that.

I weighed an empty one. Shipping by first class in a bubble envelope costs $4 and change. Along with the $1 or so in eBay and PayPal fees, that would leave a profit of 50-75 cents if sold for $6.

Donate them to Goodwill, they'll sell everything to help those in need. Peace Roy

Or donate to a coin club or coin dealer to give away to a YN.

Or use it to ship Ebay sales of slabbed coins.

Place a junk silver coin in a napkin and put into the box. Secure the exterior with multiple wraps of duct tape. Bury in an inconspicuous place in an area where metal detecting occurs. B)

Too much info, but a “quick” read about the codes cam be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recycling_codes

There are several (that I looked at) engineering sites with a lot more details... find them and you’ll be justly rewarded with a good nap.

    Enjoy. :*

I have recycled quite a few submitting to PCGS. They are perfect for the 2+1/2 x 2+1/2 flips PCGS requires for submissions.

The last show that I went to had a large pyramid of 'em. I did not inquire about how much they were, but they were gone when I made another lap.

We had quite a write-up in our local paper a couple of months ago. It pretty much said that the recycling program has run it's course.
According to the story, a majority of the recyclables were going to China, as they had the most use for the material. They've gotten their fill,so that started quite a back-up.
Because this material was being sold to China, the program has always been able to financially support itself. It made enough to pay the employees and cover expenses. Now, it's costing money. The numbers were staggering. They went on to ask that people stop trying to recycle colored glass, as that's the worst offender at this point.
After hearing that, PCGS boxes probably aren't that offensive........

    Here's more...

Americans' plastic recycling is dumped in landfills, investigation shows

Los Angeles county public works estimates that in 2018, the county sent more than half a million tons of plastic to four different landfills, and nearly 20,000 tons of plastic to its waste-to-energy incinerator. And it appears that many other recyclers are doing exactly the same thing.

Better than putting it in the trash, recycled or not,
    Put them on the bst.

Better for the environment than recycling imo.
