Counterfeit with short notice

ifthevamzarockinifthevamzarockin Posts: 8,908 ✭✭✭✭✭

Short notice to get removed.
Seller has been made aware but is unable to cancel because auction has under 12 hours to go.
I think the seller was honestly unaware.

Can he cancel bids and edit his auction details/description?

Yes, but there is no way to keep someone from bidding at the last minute and it would still end in a sale

Five bidiots and nine bids. Pardon my cynicism but I wonder if the seller who seemingly sells a lot of other dollars was really taken by this or is that their story?

I guess he could title the auction as "Found out this is fake. Don't bid on it numb nuts!" :D

Seller is fairly new to selling and claims they got it in a group of other Morgans.
I think the seller was honestly unaware.

Can't change the title once there are bids.

A brief look at the sellers sold listings shows no other questionable coins sold.

    I’m skeptical
Looking at his other auctions reveal he is not new
    And
He knows how to take photos in focus.

You may very well be correct.
He has been selling for only about 6 months.
The obverse photo is good enough to see it is a counterfeit.

Rare coin - one day auction.. Hmmm...

Either he really needs some fast money or he wants a quick hit that doesn't provide enough time for people to alert eBay.

The second “8” and “5” look off. What did everyone else see to determine it’s fake? I’m seriously wondering because I wouldn’t have noticed this if I didn’t know otherwise.

Raised dot below N and after M in UNUM , cotton bolls & leaf details weak , hair details weak, lower serif of I missing & broken top of P , cast grainy of color surfaces , denticals to the right of date.

Update: Seller said he had a coin shop look at his listing and they advised to remove it. Said he let the buyer know and canceled the sale. Thanked for the help and advise and is looking forward to studying the coin further to be able to spot them in the future. I think he didn't know but time will tell if we see relisted in a week or two.

That is a good response you received from the seller...may really have been a mistake on his part. Correct, if it appears again, well, that will tell the tale. Cheers, RickO
