Personally I would've dipped her between the slab change.

Guess the nasty does help conceal the details scratches. Congrats!

Curiously, why did you get it graded?

    Because it looks cool

It would also look cool raw, in an airtite, or flip.

However, as an extremely minor shareholder in TPG grading services, I encourage submissions.

True, but I’m the sort of guy that might buy a slabbed coin and crack it out to put it in a Dansco 7070.

No intent to be tough. Just pointing out that at that (or even the next grade level), the cost of grading and postage would be more than any added value to the coin. But as another poster pointed out, what matters is if you’re happy with it. Enjoy.

So originally in NGC holder then PCGS details then back to NGC straight grade ?

All I see is a coin with problems that PCGS called correctly so you send to ngc to get a straight grade. This just about says it all about the hobby (to some) and ngc.

Do you say the same about the hobby and PCGS when NGC details coins get into straight grade PCGS holders ? Or do you cover your eyes and pretend otherwise when that happens?

I have never had that happen. Actually I have never even tried to do that. The thing is that there is a reason PCGS is # 1. :)B)

Plenty of other people have, and if you weren’t already aware of it, you should get out more.

Thanks Mark, I get out plenty.....enough to know that PCGS is the slab where good coins go to stay! ;) Have a good day. B)

I’ve had that scenario happen plenty of times. One example from NGC Env Damage to PCGS straight grade.

Which PCGS opinion do you take when a PCGS coin is regraded and grades higher?

You're what is called a "stirrer". You like to pick and choose to help and try to make "your" point. Sticking to this thread......the coin in the OP clearly has scratches and should be in a detail holder as stated by PCGS. It's still the same problem coin in a ngc straight holder. And when/if the OP goes to sell this coin I sure hope the buyer knows what he is getting.

Yes, the coin clearly has scratches. And scratches are apparent on a great many coins graded mint state by both PCGS and NGC. As I have posted on multiple occasions, often, the decision whether to assign a straight grade vs. a details grade is as or more difficult/subjective than the decision as to what straight grade to assign to a problem-free coin.

Both PCGS and NGC have graded countless coins higher than the one another and both have straight-graded many coins that the other has details-graded. But your posts make it appear that you don't understand or acknowledge those facts.

I completely understand and agree with what you are saying. I just feel that PCGS makes fewer mistakes than ngc. Also are you counting hairlines the same as scratches. Are smaller scratches looked at differently. Does the location of said scratch affect weather or not a detail grade is given. These are all questions that I am sure come into play. Also older coins like Bust coins are given more leeway. Bottom line to me is I prefer PCGS over ngc. If I see a coin I like and need in a ngc holder I will of course buy it and then cross to PCGS.

Right on. Much more consistent and less forgiving than NGC. There's a reason why the late night coin show guys peddle NGC exclusively. This is, of course, my opinion and preference.

On the subject, and the Morgan, obviously the man is happy with what he got. Is that any different than the enjoyment of guy who possesses a million dollar Morgan? In other words everything else is just an opinion.

PCGS could make a public statement saying that they make mistakes and dimeman would refute it; he is that immersed in the koolaid.

It's not koolaid……..it's a fact! PCGS is better that ngc! ;)

From a scratched, details coin in a PCGS holder to a problem free NGC holder. Everyone has an opinion. Was the "scratch" caused by a staple on the cheek? If you like it, that is what matters.

It's a 'scrape' of some kind. Something scraped it while it was on the end of the roll. Perhaps another coin?
