These people are not at all interested in numismatics, they are interested in a quick and easy profit. Quick buck artists. They see us coin people as a bunch of doddering old fools, with more cents than sense. Easy marks.
I do not care what is in their pocket change - I often see coins here that I have recently sent to Coinstar in significant quantities.
Not a new fad. This has been happening on the various forums for a while. You can thank the "Get Rich from Pocket Change" YouTube junk.
That being said, I think it's important to help new collectors. However, after a post or 2, it's pretty easy to see who are the "get rich" people from the people who want to learn.

It’s nice to look agreed, but if you’re really interested learn a little before posting.
You could also learn by asking "experts".
Of course some of the experts here can't help but belittle the questions. Sure, some of them may be trolling, but a couple polite "PMDs and welcome to the boards" might change the fate of the hobby.

Some of them are. Maybe most of them. A few of them are interested. You just can't tell from the first post.
I do laugh when someone finds a "gold quarter" in a roll. I dump the gold-plated garbage into circulation all the time.
@jmlanzaf Most of the regulars here are decently well-off, a few are exceedingly well-off. You gotta get out in the hoi polloi to know how very tough it is now for many folks.
Some of the things that we think are important are quite difficult for the great unwashed to understand. They interprete us as dumbies. So they take a shot at our "gullibility".

Well, I'm only one rung above the great unwashed, so I can sympathize.
There are a couple regulars here now who started with virtually pocket change. One of them was trying to "get rich by getting lucky" with Mint Set top pops. He's settled in as a regular and I had my doubts about his original motivations, but he's proven me wrong. The actual trolls disappear pretty quickly. They disappear even more quickly if we would refrain from taking the bait.
@jmlanzaf I don't disagree that the group responds to both noobs & trolls with great alacrity.
I lurked here for about four years before I ever posted, and I have now collected for more than fifty years. I don't see anybody here who has graduated from a noob to a seasoned & knowledgeable poster in a short time.

Some frequent poster was serving up a constant boatload of self-serving half-truths, and it finally got to be too much. I had to sign-up and sign-in, summer 2017.
I like to think that I don't allow the b-s artistes to get to me that much.

That's a riot!!! Reminds me of the time I hand painted some quarters and put them in a cash drawer....when customers got them, they thought they had rare colorized quarters!!!!!!!!!
I use a 5 gallon water jug. It takes about 5 years for me to fill it. Last time I emptied it it had $1500. I used a hand truck to wheel it into the bank for the coin counter. They thought I was crazy.
Since everything pouring out of the mint is crap, one has to search for a spent coin from grandpa's collection or one seeded by people like us.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I often find myself in agreement with @jmlanzaf on his posts and know (from direct messages) that he has a better view of human nature than I do. He often takes an genuine interest in helping some of the noobs develop their skills, which is much harder for me to do.
I’ve studied the overall increase in posting of
Parking lot rejects 😀
And here’s my conjecture
The difficulty of posting photos
when you needed a camera and lights
combined with the lengthy process
to learn and use
photobucket
Kept these flippant postings from occurring.

I only save it to search one day. I've got loose change from the 1960's dumped into containers that my parents saved too. The lure of finding a 1969-S DDO keeps me from turning in the Lincoln's.
I started to search and roll the quarters several months ago. Turned in over $300 and only found one clip and a bunch of die chips. Dimes next. Their are some nice transitional reverses.

I got a whole bag of change with your name on it.

Also, always good to get a microscopic shot of the picket piece in question.
The "Bowtie Fantastic" scarred me for life.

Yeah, but that was one funny and memorable thread.....even if only for its absurdity.
I still check my change.... have not found much in the last year or so...except a couple of wheaties and one silver dime....Cheers, RickO
jmlanzaf needs to listen more intently to BillDugan1959.
I suppose I find it more interesting than “is it cac worthy?”

Good point, I prefer greatly the latter.
You'd have more of a better chance to find a three-legged ballerina than answering if it’s cac worthy.

At least the coins are pleasant to look at
