I just wish my budget would allow me to pursue a full set of these.

I am pursuing a holed set of them and have been for a long time. When I can't find a holed one, I go for a looped one or ex-jewelry or love token example. I try to get a nice example of all dates but settle for what shows up and I can afford. Sometimes they are not pretty but I upgrade when I can. Attached are a few examples. Dave
I love them!

My one type example:
I could see buying more, especially an 1854

Very nice coins...even with holes....I do not have an $3 gold,... I may have to rectify that situation. Cheers, RickO
I need professional pictures taken but this is mine (iPhone pictures):
Part of my gold type set.
I seem to have misplaced my 1870 S.
Love those $3.
Beautiful old gold. I don’t have a $3 piece.........yet.
I love this MS63 example even though the series has been pretty stagnant for a good while.
Kind regards,
George
Would love to have one in my type set

I wish I had bought it.
A bit common.
One can argue that $3 golds are not too terribly common. There are just some dates that are more common than others.
I have a lightly scratched 54o to slot into my O mint gold dollars. It fits because they made O dollars form 49-55 but no 54 and they use the same Obv design from the type 3.

Once owned this long ago. This one showed a bit more use than those on the S.S. Central America.

Like most here, I just have one for type; such a strange denomination.
