Nice! Like the dime and the gold. If I had to choose the gold would win.

No doubt FINDING this Dime set my imagination running. I've been researching the Folsom history heavily the last 2 years... From Black Bart to My Family photos of my Grandfather standing Mormon Island, the town which once stood where folsom Lake now covers... I really do wonder when it as dropped.. I certainly do have a priceless collection now... This dime goes perfect with the old steel railroad spike, and shovel head I have also found just this year.

I'll add the pic of the shovel later. I found 3 this year. One in the Mohovi desert and we'll preserved because of the dry air.

  • AND REALLY!! THAT MUST HAVE BEEN A WHOLE WEEKS WAGES THAT WAS LOST!!!

Maybe they also lost their seated dollar pocket piece, or the 12 gram gold nugget they found.

Congrats on the nice find! I found an 1876-S in AU sitting in shallow water along the bank at Herrick Lake, IL when I was a kid.

That Dime is very well worn.....so it wasn't "lost" that long ago. It took years and years to get worn to that state. Sorry to be a downer.

There are a number of areas in that part of California that once had small towns etc that are long gone. My great grandmother was born in Michigan Bar which was in eastern Sacramento county. I would love to go through those town sites with a detector - would be a lot of work though as a lot of them were wiped out with hydraulic mining in the 19th century.
