eBay 1901-S Barber Quarter - What in the dickens is going on here?

Found in a storage unit? Hmmmm….
Sold as a novelty item?
Maybe fell from outer space?
Anybody rolling the dice on this one?
Dave
Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

Coin is a horrible fake and the slab of course is fake too! Look at the date on the coin wow thats terrible looking. I thought my fake ike looked bad 🤣🤣🤣
HAPPY COLLECTING
The coin is an obvious fake. It would be neat if PCGS wrote a letter to Ebay and let them know that a file is being made up to be used against them for helping to ruin the reputation of PCGS!
Do you think it's real.
Yes. I'm pretty sure that's a real piece of metal in a plastic holder.
Real, as in it exists in space and time? Yes. Real Barber quarter in a real PCGS slab? No.
what is obvious sign of fake
91% eBay rating. That is pretty darn low.
"I don't know too much about it...I am selling this coin as a novelty as I don't know if it is a real coin or not. With that said you are buying this coin as is with no returns or refunds."
Are you kidding me???? All one needs to do is compare this picture to any one of the many available on the PCGS website!
"This coin is either really under graded or has some kind of rim damage that cannot be seen...." Yea, right, PCGS must have made a "typo."
Q: If it has 'rim damage' that can't be seen through the holder, how does one know that it has rim damage?
Dave
His story as a storage hunter seems to be true. Selling everything from brats doll to military items. No return policy. If he took to dealers you would think one would have made a offer. If I had found it and it even remotely possible to be a real coin I would have submitted it pcgs On the other hand if he doesn't have a membership it would be costly and time consuming to set that up. I have done storage hunting for awhile now and the goal is turn the stuff into money asap.
The date is a huge giveaway as being fake. Very sloppy looking. Wrong font, wrong letter style, wrong size
HAPPY COLLECTING
I couldn't help but laugh at the description, the guy CLEARLY knows it's a fake and tiptoed around it like crazy with out clauses for when people come back to him (not that out clauses mean anything on ebay he would have to take the return). What a clown.
That is so blatant as to be laughable..... and yet, there are bids....Cheers, RickO
If someone can't be bothered to post a pic that is large and not blurry, then you know the coin is not worth buying at any price. This one is a counterfeit.
THAT'S the point! Now if you think about it really hard, you'll figure it out why the condition of the rim or edge does not matter if you cannot see it while the coin is still slabbed.
I may bid on it next week just to get the C/F holder.
Compare the numbers in the date with a real 1901 Barber Quarter....they are not even close to being the same.

Look at the digits in the date and compare the shape of the numbers to a real coin.
Reported.
Some people may well bid just based on the PCGS holder without careful observation.
The answer is the question. Ebay.

I reported it and emailed the seller. He claims he really doesn't know and that's why he put the disclaimers on it. He also suggested that he kind of does now or he wouldn't have sold "a $3500 coin at that starting bid".
I suggested to him that putting up a picture of a PCGS Certification as well as suggesting that at least one dealer thought it might be good was, at best, sending mixed non-novelty messages. I also told him that eBay would likely remove it because a counterfeit is a counterfeit not a novelty. I also told him I knew that multiple people had reported it to eBay.
We'll see what happens. Either he'll pull it or eBay will.
some one is gonna be totally bummed out when they get it
I like the location of the seller

It's a genuine fake coin in a genuine fake PCGS holder.
Still up as of 7:42 pm CT. Yikes.
Someone bid $500 and canceled it an hour later. I'm sure the bidder is glad about taking a closer look.
Ms. Liberty looks like she suffered a bop with a 2x4 on her forehead.
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
The only thing about this "coin" and holder that is authentic is the scruffed up, beat-up hologram.
That looks genuine.
