Humble Collector Watch

hyf88hyf88 Posts: 294 ✭✭✭

I have followed the Hansen Watch thread from the beginning and have absolutely enjoyed watching the collection grow. It is a truly amazing undertaking and is something that I as a collector can only dream about. I appreciate all of the updates and can't wait to see what he buys next. I would love the opportunity to meet the man someday and possibly view some of the coins.

That being said, as a collector of very humble means with a budget exponentially smaller than Mr. Hansen's I figured I'd start a thread where all of us who are building collections of coins that may not quite be of the quality of the Hansen coins can showcase our new additions. ( I know we can do that anyway but figured I'd have a little fun with it)

I get a lot of enjoyment out of adding to my humble little collection and thought even small collections deserve a little love now and then.
So, without further blabbering - the newest addition to my collection - a 1915-D Barber quarter.

Here's to the humble collectors of the world! (And yes, I am absolutely jealous of Mr. Hansen's collection!)

Just enjoy your coins... Sure, it is nice to see the expensive coins held by affluent collectors... and I am happy that we can see them through registry sets and other means. That being said, I enjoy my coins and have the pleasure of ownership. Cheers, RickO

The updates that @Currin has been keeping with the Hansen set is a remarkably good read. I think that we all are a bit biased (being collectors ourselves), but I'd like to think that The Hansen Timepiece Thread would be of interest to anyone who respects history. Its so cool to witness the monumental challenge he is attempting, all open for us to see in real time.

Coin collecting is somewhat an insular hobby, we have what we have, we strive for better or more, (or to learn and share more) and we really enjoy the prospect of adding something good or important to our sets. But we generally do it alone, by ourselves. There are countless posts here where folks tell of no family members or friends who share this passion. I have literally been given a single word response ("shrug") from my brother to a major addition to one of my sets that I am really proud of.

So there is a lot of cool stuff that members here share and find an appreciative audience. Your 15-D quarter is a nice, strong example. It is is good hands, and I'm sure that it likes being cherished. Am I'm glad that you shared something that you are proud to own. It would be even better if you are working on a set with definable goals, and we could all watch your progress to the end. That's what I (and I think all of us are doing with the Hansen sets) enjoy watching and commenting on. Progress towards a goal.

I have a difficult set that I've been working on for the past few years. I have been posting updates every six months or so on my progress here, and I have received lots of good comments and encouragement from members. I have even had a few good folks find me coins that I need to complete this set.
So, have and enjoy your "Humble Collector" set. keep us updated on it's progress.
