Wreath Cent Damage???

Any comments as to what could have caused this 1793 Sheldon 11c Wreath Cent Damage?
Planchet flaw or shotgun pellets or???

    Looks like it was struck many times with a small, blunt implement.

    MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

    See the raised edges of the dings. That's displaced metal and it's a characteristic of being hit. A die strike would have flattened the raised edges if it was a defective planchet

    Not shot, that would be smooth. Semi-blunt (pattern on tip from use) tool like an old awl.

    Sure looks like someone was just randomly hitting a metal rod into the surface...otherwise, it has been crunched against fine gravel .....but all PMD... Cheers, RickO

    Guy was out hunting with a buddy, got hit with bird shot while the coin was in his pants pocket

    From the looks of it, it occurred after the coin was well worn, so obviously not a planchet flaw.

    The scratches on the obverse, look some what newer,
    but not 100% sure.
    Sideways looks like some kind of fort layout.
    or just teepees looking straight up.

    I had some damaged [holed] early large cents and a half cent and a Fugio and decided to re-purpose them, and make a good situation out of a bad.
    I made ear rings and necklaces for the wife. Unique gifts you will not find at Jared's or other jewelry stores. Jon
