Are extensive die cracks common on large cents?

Saw some really wicked cracking on this large cent. Is this common for large cents to have such extensive die cracks? This one is pretty evident and adds to the eye appeal IMO.

    There are a few varieties of middle date large cent where this sort of cracking is fairly common.

    Common on that year. Scarce later except amongst the reverse lettering.

    How many gins did the mint employees have at sun up to not see that those dies were wasted? ;)

    As evidenced by the above posts, die cracks were fairly common on the cents... Many have been posted here over the years. When I used to go to coin shows out west, I saw a lot of them. May even have one or two myself. Cheers, RickO

    The dies get used till they are unusable. Die preparation was expensive. That's why you have so many reworked dies, even into the 20th century.

    I seem to recall that a lot of the Randall hoard coins have die cracks but I may be mistaken.

    Yup. I love the double profile CBH's from this era and didn't see many cents with this feature so I was
    happy to spot this one.
