The coin market is manipulated all the time by (fill in the blank). I won't state my conspiracy theories but many abound!
In the 19th century many Americans lived and died without ever seeing any U.S. coin design other than the Liberty Seated series.

CAC approval is the most important factor in my purchasing decision.

Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
There are too many finishes and mint mark varieties on modern bullion coins. Seven different varieties of 2019 silver eagles as an example.

We can be human. I have been first on a box before and when the box came around to be QC'ed, I would look at a coin in a slab and think, "which fool graded this coin such-and-such." Then I'd pull the coin up in the computer to discuss it with the other guys and see that"I'm the dummy who started it off." The important thing is that most coins leaving any major TPGS are graded correctly.
BTW, coins look different in the slab. One finalizer I formerly worked with would often put a coin back into its flip to see what it looked like through a layer of plastic!
In an ideal world, each coin would be graded by three graders and a finalizer. Then put away until the next day and sent through again with at least one different grader and a DIFFERENT finalizer. Any coin whose grade changed would be discussed at the end of the day. Can you imagine how good the results would be then?

Any TPG coin I buy for a fixed price on Ebay or any retail coin website is a guaranteed financial loss for me.
