The Ohio state coin show is always held on Labor day weekend. Even with that in mind they always seem to pack collectors in all weekend long.

Thursday started with unpacking everything and setting up. We did quite a few sales with other dealers looking for au-UNC indian head cents and wheats. We also sold all of our GSA morgans as well on Thursday evening.

Friday started with quite a few collectors coming in the door. Want lists had a variety of items on them from new national park quarters to 93 s Morgan dollars. Lots of people asking about silver and opinions of dealers on what is going to happen with it in the future. If only we knew the answer. I saw 90% silver trading between 12.8 and 14x. Generic .999 was seeming to trade around melt. It did seem strange that I didnt notice many eagles for sale in the room. There were some here and there but not like i normally see here.

Saturday morning started with again a large number of collectors. I over heard alot of dealers worrying about the fact that the Ohio state football opening game came on at 12 that day. But as a suprise to alot of dealers it didnt seem to affect attendance anywhere near as much as some dealers thought. Business was steady through out the day on Saturday. Not as much offered for sale as normal, but we were able to purchase 4 complete sets of Lincoln cents in a range of grades. The nice part was all of the key dates were already slabbed. On Saturday they also have a yn treasure hunt. There are around 15 dealers who have a question about some type of coin. After the kids answer they then get the coin about there question was about. I heard one of the folks running the program, that there was 30 yn's that participated. It was refreshing to see the kids EXCITED to ask the question and learn about coins. It's a great yn program, maybe the best one I have ever seen at a show.

Sunday started a little slow as expected. We did some last minute deals with dealers who all seemed fairly happy with the show. Most said they believed they did well but maybe not as well as last year. We were able to buy a nice 1913-1919s au buffalo set. We were happy all the dates and mintmark were included.

As a whole on the show we did very well. Selling coins from just about every section in coin collecting. Lots of dealers had many empty holes in there cases and seemed genuinely happy with the show.

I have to give a huge thank you to patty who runs the show and all of the green hats who work very hard making sure all of the dealers have everything they need and help with anything they can. Year after year we go to more and more shows 35+ and this show continues to be one of the best run most organized shows I attend!

Ohio is a big state for coins; lots of generational interest in numismatics, kids remember their parents were collectors and get interested when the metals spike in particular.
