Would you prefer the coins below in a grade run from 02 to 45 or a single AU example since the value is about the same?

As a collector that question is easy. You only need one for the set so........
I just need one for my set. Preferably slabbed by our host. Let me know, congrats!
This is an interesting thread. I've been meaning to check what I have in my sets. I suspect I have as much or close to as much in my AU58 set of Barber Halves as I do my other 8 sets grading F12-XF45(1 set per grade).
I will take the grade run in 1893 S. Very cool set.
Me too.
The 1893-S dollar a fairly scarce coin, and it would be quite impressive to have a grade set. So I’d take the grade set.
I'd look for an original coin with eye appeal which can be hard with the issue.
I would take the AU.
For me as well.
I too would take the grade run ..... just more chances for some sustained fun with future buys/sells/trades.
I would prefer them all over one.

I would take the one (and I have) - However, I also have a few others picked up along the way .... Cheers, RickO

It depends on what you mean by an AU example. The XF40($7,000) and XF45($10,000) together are worth the same as a nice AU50($17,000). On the other hand an AU58 is worth a whole lot more ($70,000). That coin I would love to have.
I would prefer several nice G04 to around VF30 for this issue. I would have them priced bid plus 25 pct which is around CPG. You don’t need overkill or super big ticket coins fill the hole. A stack of about 6 would look impressive in my case at the show.
Most likely I would have only one of this date in bourse room and based on past experience these good sellers. Very few collectors wealthy enough afford the higher grade pieces. Filling the hole with a decent circ affordable example works better.
Coin collecting for many is about filling the hole not some highest grade Top Pop coin you paid out the Gazoo for. I have other 2 other hobbies besides coins.
Just two for me. One of each reverse die. Nice, wholesome VF30-35 looks to be the "bang for the buck" grade.

I have heard that one guy has 800 of them!
While dumping them all at once will have an impact on the market for them, they'll probably be absorbed easily. I don't see it as being the same as having a hoard of 1844 dimes.

I'd take the grade run.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
Just one AU example would make me happy

Pretty cool to have a date run of these.
I myself have had only one in my collection.
