Well with Zen there are a number of different ways of counting, many solutions.. So I will say only one.... Only one step..... Until the next one.

Zero, because I do not use Stones for Steeping. It reminds me of the stone soup poem, so maybe I should try.

If "steeping" was a typo my apologies, because I hate it when people make fun of typos. But had to take the chance you really meant Steeping.
Also, being from Minnesota I am not looking forward to Fall, because that means Winter is just around the corner. :'(

I'm counting 19 stones in the photo, but how many it takes to reach a zen moment will depend on the person on the path....
I'm gonna say 10, when you have to carefully sidestep the palm frond.
[P.S. Edited, sorry - had the wrong lightbulb joke in there at first - surrealists.]
For those of you that missed it:
Q: "How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?"
A: "Two. One to hold the giraffe, and a second to fill the bathtub with brightly colored machine tools."7 -

I see 18 in the picture, but just knowing that you are on the path,
Going to a zen place, it wouldn't require them all, so I say 12.

Ten Zen steps to live by:
Simplify your daily activities down to the essentials. Practice the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Stupid.
Do a mind cleanse. Be careful of your associations and mindful to avoid those things that have the potential to bring you down.
Reevaluate your dreams and goals. Do you have unrealistic expectations of the satisfaction or happiness you will have on completing a goal?
Establish a daily routine for your life. A daily routine allows for a quieter mind because there's less to think about.
Establish a home meditation practice. But make practice simple and convenient (blend it in to everyday life).
Identify the resistance and remove it. Lean in to your problems, don't run from them.
Become aware of dualistic thinking. Without the bad there would be no good.
Live with the energy of mindfulness. Live with the spirit of greater awareness in daily activities, giving your full presence around loved ones, and with complete (but not exclusive, still open) attention during your work and you'll see the significant effect living with mindfulness has on every aspect of your life.
Do One Thing. Give your full attention to that thing and nothing else. Is it being with a person? Give your full presence to them.
Respect and Appreciate Life. Living in this way, every moment, every interaction, and every thing becomes beautiful and infinitely valuable.
My 10 cents worth. As you all can see, I am fully prepared for my Zen moment around Paradise's house.

"Two things are infinite: human stupidity and the universe; and I'm not sure about the universe."
-Albert Einstein-Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

Don't walk behind me, for I may not lead.
Don't walk in front of me, for I may not follow.
Just walk beside me and keep quiet.
Or even better, go away.
