Anybody have any idea what this is. guy found this underwater detecting in the carribean in a stash of 1500-1600 dated silver
reale's.

    What's it made of and size. Does the Sprue at the top look broken off something? Does the center portion in the second image turn?

    @jdimmick ... Could you elaborate more on the 'stash' and where in the Caribbean? (Just general reference such as near what island).... It looks as if it could be part of the seal for a container of gold/silver being shipped back to Spain...and it did not make it. Cheers, RickO

    Lead seals have been in use all over the world going way back. 1508 could be a year. Ship voyages took a long time so that would be relevant upon receipt in Europe. IMO. Peace Roy

    If the guy comes back in, Ill ask him where in the carribean. He and his father found lots of silver coins in the same area!!
    this was back in the 70's 80's

    Lead seals used to be commonly used on meters (gas, electric) to prevent tampering... They certainly had many other applications as well...Cheers, RickO

    I have one similar, dated 1893 was used for taxes paid .

    These are lead textile seals.
    Yours is different and looks like it might have sealed a wire/rope ?? to deter tampering with the contents.
