With deep sadness I must share the passing of former board member Michael Luck. Mike was a prodigy of numismatics and was well known among many of the elite collectors and dealers of our time. Despite the lifelong medical issues that plagued Mike, he passionately lived and breathed numismatics, always eager to engage anyone in coin related discussions, from the mundane to the esoteric. The numismatic community has lost a great mind.

That’s terribly sad news.
Michael was easily among the most passionate numismatists/persons I’ve ever met. He was an exceptionally kind and entertaining gentleman, as well.

It was through Michael that i met the first 2 posters to this thread. He was a veritable encyclopedia of numismatic knowledge and instumental in helping me build my collection of toned proof IHC and MPLs

If you got to meet Michael just one time, you would never forget it for the rest of your life. Michael was unique, entertaining, and extremely passionate and knowledgeable about numismatics. I missed his presence on the bourse the last few years. RIP, Michael.

Michael was a great mentor, and abundantly generous. His depth of knowledge and love of numismatics was always and forever apparent to anyone who knew him, or even who read his posts here. I hadn't heard from him for a number of years. I hope his passing was a peaceful one.

yeah, sad news indeed. he was a little left of center(who here isn't??) but that came with his medical problems. I always liked him and he always seemed willing to help with what his experience and knowledge had taught him. I wondered what happened to him, he just vanished.
He's known for the last couple of years that the end was approaching. He was a diabetic with declining kidney function.
I saw him at the RNA meetings. But I specifically remember that I saw him at a Geneva coin show in August 2017. He shocked me by saying he would be dead in 2 years. He called it almost to the day.
He was truly one of a kind. When he got revved up, there was nothing like it.
If I'm remembering correctly, he was the one with the Pikachu icon, right (now shows banned)? He was entertaining for sure and came across as very knowledgeable.

Condolences to Michael's family and friends. He was very active on these boards many years ago, and very knowledgeable. Michael knew coins and called them as he saw them. We all learned a lot from him, and he's missed.

I hadn't heard from him in a few years and figured it was health/banning. Sounds like I was right.
I do recall, early on in my forum life, that lasted for more than a few years, several PM threads with him that he would start with me....all in a good way and mostly in a numismatic way, but sometimes just talking about different things in life.

Michael is very well remembered on our forum. I never had the opportunity to meet Michael in person, but his passing reminds me that perhaps the greatest experience in Numismatics happens on the bourse. I definitely need to attend more coin shows.
