If you could have an alt...

I can think of lots of reasons to have an alternative "handle." Being both an "unknown" and "known" poster at the same time would be lots of fun and you could even argue with yourself. I was unknown for over a year at the first forum I ever joined and it was a hoot. I got permanently banned form one forum for constantly questioning several of the long-time "ex-perts" there and received a short vacation from another for not playing nice. So, if you could (without being caught) enjoy ...

One alternative handle would mean you had two handles. Your “more than one alternative ‘handle’ “ would mean you had at least three handles, altogether. Is that what you meant?😈

THANKS! I'm going to read this a few times slowly and make a correction when I understand what you wrote.

OK, I got it. The more "alts" the better but I'll correct the syntax.

OP is certainly worked up today, I had already noticed that much...

I do greatly appreciate the moderators' efforts to get rid of the Alts.

I certainly don't want to read somebody arguing with their sock puppet.

I personally have no need for an alt.

The pretending to be the other sex options are, in my opinion, disgusting.

Edit to add: I can envision how one may feel like starting over with a new handle. If that is the case, go through the proper channels and do so, but don't nefariously use an alt.

If it is the one I'm thinking of, the poster admitted to having multiple alts. I'd hardly consider that particular poster important except perhaps in the poster's mind as the poster really hasn't contributed anything unique or significant in the field of numismatics.

    Trolls suck and alts suck.
I've never wanted to have an alt, here or on other forums, and I haven't had any alts.

I may not always play nice with others, as I am pretty open and honest on things, and that can come off "not so friendly", at times, but even given that, people should man up and be alt-less and say what they want if they really want to say it, as themselves.

I can see where one may want an "Anonymous " alt, in fact over the years I'm sure a lot of people in the past that have been kicked from the board wish they had used an alt.

I can remember years ago when several users waited and wondered if they would get a knock on their door from a 'Process Server' . There had been some rather serious statements concerning a service not connected with our host,
As a result our host had to cooperate in legal proceedings or suffer consequences that would cause great harm.

Many including myself feared that the board would be shut down, it was that serious. As a result there were many new rules enacted warning of the consequences for the type of activity that had occured.

The fact is that if a thread gets heated the monitors will lock a thread, delete comments or just remove the thread all together.
I don't blame them a bit, I for one would not want the liability of a forum such as this.

I use just one handle, it is the same one I had on the old board, until it was closed down, I waited until the end of 2006 to switch, for a long time there were two boards provided by our host, some had moved over to this side early in the game. I'm sure many from that time remember the "Open Forum" , it's use got very political about several aspects of the coin industry and the politics of the day.

Enough said about the past here, I will say that using an alt to argue against yourself, or others is not the purpose of this board.

The board in my belief is here to help us understand and educate others about coins, old and new coins it's all here whatever you're interest in collecting seems to be well covered by our host. It is the reason I have sent coins in to be graded, have attributes recognized, and the service they provide is second to none.

There is nothing better than having a coin retuned to you from PCGS to find out when you open the package that you have the only key top population coin in a series. For me it was a top 100 VAM for a Morgan dollar, it went from being a $40 coin to a $365 coin in a few weeks time, and the buyer loved it.

For that reason you are able to buy from sellers all over the world sight unseen as it was intended, it sure beats the old way of answering an ad in a coin publication and hoping everything turns out alright.

Do yourself a favor and be respectful to our host wishes and follow the guidelines they have set out, they really do provide a great free service.

Much as I like a bit of clean mischief, if everyone were to do that with alts, it would only serve to lower the signal-to-noise ratio of this forum. Pass.

If idiocy like this was allowed (or encouraged), it would only degrade the forum even more. We have enough posters here that appear to collect nothing but dust or troll pimples and add absolutely nothing to a thread (snark doesn't count).

I would create an alt who doesn't speak English, then post some really nice coins, then when everyone figures out most of the photos are doctored I'd use my other alt to call them cyber bullies and complain to the mods about it and try to get as many members banned as possible.
But someone else beat me to it, so... I guess I'll just be myself.

    GULP!

I was posing a question as members here over the years have suggested that some members who are banned have alts. I don't have one either but in my twisted mind it would pose some humorous (troll) possibilities.

I think everyone here will agree that you have done a great job cleaning up the forums. The respondents to my poll indicate they don't wish to put up with alts either.
