Yep... I do recall silver dollars in Vegas...especially those machines that had a pile inside on a shelf, with coins ready to drop if pushed over the edge by adding more....Cheers, RickO
An older friend (and his father-in-law) in our local coin club was able to put a date-set of Morgan Dollars together for $1 each when he was at Nellis. Those were the days.
Oh my, how nice! I would love to have a stack of silver like that.
Maybe it's time to take all the coins out of the safe and put them on my dinning room table, I hope one extra leaf will do.
A dark wooden table would make for a good contrast to all those coins...
Great topic and pictures, worth several hours of fun...

I remembere in the late 50's my uncle had about 20 1 pound Folger's coffee cans full of Morgan silver dollars. My dad picked me up in his black 1938 Ford truck. I told him about the coins and all he said was, "that old guy has every dollar he even made". My thought was how is that possible.
highly unlikely, silver was about one dollar per ounce back then, so the silver dollars were worth about melt. gold was around 35/ounce, so it would be silly to put a $20 liberty gold on the table that would be worth over 30 dollars at melt

That's great. Did any tables ever use gold coins too?

Just imagine Lavere Redfield's pile of over 400 1,000 coin bags of dollars in his basement.
