Is this the type of toning that occurred naturally on these cents because of the holder they were packaged in? Does it add or subtract value? Ricko doesn’t get to answer this question, lol.

All of my standard PROOF sets from 2009 have cents which toned like that (all cents in each set).
None of my Silver PROOF sets from 2009 have cents which toned like that.

Something changed from one type of set to the other. Probably some chemical makeup in the foam holder that the coins are set in.

That's a shame. Hope it is more attractive than it looks.

I have not looked at mine in years. I guess I'll have some colorful surprises waiting for me.

Some have quite attractive deep orange/gold/light violet toning which can be quite attractive.
I don't know the reason why they tone, but they do.....as you specuated, may have to do with the packaging.

I have a couple of sets of the proof cents that have very attractive toning which is probably the result of the packaging.

Thanks for the input. Is the coin worth more or less with the toning? To me, if it is “package toning”, then it is acceptable and worth a little more than a regular cent with no toning.

I think your observation is correct but largely dependent on the degree of attractiveness.

Took a chance and purchased the coin for my Registry set. Seller’s pictures were horrible as previously posted. Here are my pics.
