I recently acquired this Rudolf II Thaler and am really happy with it. I welcome any feedback or comments. Please post some of your own - a lot of the great older threads no longer have pictures attached to them.
Let me also take this opportunity to thank the regular posters on this forum, who have shared their coins and knowledge. I certainly never thought I would dabble/become consumed with the darkside! It's fun.

That piece is nice, seriously don't know how it graded 53. It looks over-graded(JMHO) as I see it as a circ/wear, I was thinking EF45 before I looked at the cert #. After I saw the grade I looked for weak strike perhaps but just don't see it. Perhaps in hand the eye-appeals totally rocks idk, just saying...

Marcmoish - Maybe 45 is the right grade? - I had the same thought myself even before I got the coin. The trueview is a pretty good representation of the in-hand appearance. But, (in my opinion of course) the eye appeal is very good, and I am happy to own this coin.
If I had to explain the grade assigned by PCGS, I would guess it is due to the curvature of the coin, which is most pronounced on the portrait. Away from the top of the curve there are great details and luster. The reverse has very little actual wear that I can tell. I admit I am a novice, so this is just my best guess.
To Zohar and others - any other references besides your website and the Davenport books that you would recommend? Thanks again.
