Some interesting Ebay observations I did not know

  1. I have a handful of auctions ending in about 4hrs. I was gonna end them early and redo the photos. I was also going to modify the price. I am unable to "end" auctions for what appears to be any reason. Surprised by that.

  2. Most of us get a few free listings a month. If you use them for auctions, the listings are free using the coupon. However if you include the best offer option on the auction it will charge you. I had to call to get my $0.25 refund.

that rule has been around forever.

Ebay has been kicking off some people for unreasonable returns with well established sellers, which from what I have seen on this forum is justified. I have heard some sellers get the boot or put back under remedial training for problem feedback. I would like to see some standardization with imaging. Just enough pixels should not be enough, images should be clear and honest.

You can always set up a secondary ebay account and put in a last minute bid or get a buddy to "buy" an item you are going to lose serious money on.

You must have a dealer eBay account. Us mere mortals who only sell occasionally get 50 free listings a month and Ebay pretty much forces me to add a "buy it now" option, no extra charge.

You should be able to end the auction UNLESS you had bids on the auction. Did you have bids?

No bids on any of the auctions. Just maybe the proximity to ending as the reason. Still no bids on it

The pure auction listings are a major loser unless you have a lot of followers, great pictures and have done your DD on the listings. If you start out at a buck, likely your auctions will lose significant money. Buy it now with offers is much more rational. As for having someone bail you out if a listing is going to go low, I've had dealers ask me to do that.

    Exactly.

Do your homework first. Have an accurate description with good pictures to back up your claim. You may not get the highest price ever, but your item will sell at or above the going rate.

That is not cool. I list my auctions at prices I am comfortable selling the coin at if I only have one bid

It’s also illegal and can be terms to terminate of account. Not worth the risk.

Yep. Ebay considers it shill bidding. Madmarty was booted (later reinstated) on ebay for using the same laptop as someone else....ebay detected same IP and. since one had bid on the other's auction, called it shill bidding.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

It's strange that major ebay sellers have not been punished for shill activity even after a serious analysis of their sales show a high percentage likelihood of that week after week.

Here we have seen coins worth upwards of $10K on ebay listed for under $200. Once someone becomes aware of their error they should examine all remedies to avoid such losses.

Can you show us the data link or article showing this serious in depth analysis that shows top sellers doing such activity? Would like to review that data.

I for a change have/ had some good eBay news. I had an online eBay fee calculator that helped me determine BIN prices. I have a Basic store so my FVF is 6.15%. I recently sold a coin for $18,000 and was pleasantly surprised to see there is apparently a FVF fee cap of $350. Yay!

    Kind regards,

Don't call it "illegal". Breaking an Ebay policy rule doesn't get you in the back seat of a police car. Not even a ticket.

The pardon is for tyrants. They like to declare pardons on holidays, such as the birthday of the dictator, or Christ, or the Revolution. Dictators should be encouraged to keep it up. And we should be encouraged to remember that the promiscuous dispensation of clemency is not a sign of political liberality. It is instead one of those valuable, identifying marks of tyranny.

Aren't there laws against shill bidding and other forms of auction fraud?

Probably depends on the state, but yes. Shill bidding could be "illegal" as well as "against eBay policy".

The Dr. just listed his 96-S half at auction again the other day for around the 8th time if I recall. It always hammers above 2K! I can't see how ebay allows this to continue unless he's paying the FVF's and loosing his arse on the fees.
