That effect seems to be everywhere - what does the reverse look like?
nothing on the back but yes the motto on the front has it as well. of course this is mostly by magnification
It looks to me to be some bizarre form of machine doubling. It's definitely worth keeping.
Die Deterioration Doubling from a well used die
I am sure there is some die deterioration but also machine doubling since I think I see the same effect on the reverse.
I just wanted to be sure it was not a coin that had been struck twice in the collar. @ErrorsOnCoins @FredWeinberg
As a machine doubling coin, it is an extreme example and if I found it I'd keep it.
I believe the above explanations are accurate, however, there also looks to be a die chip on the 5....Cheers, RickO
