I never thought I was old at 40... Heck... I did not feel old at 70, and 80 is looking younger all the time.... Happy Birthday @SiriusBlack.... Party on....and always - THINK YOUNG!!! Cheers, RickO
One of my favorites... Look closely at the date, and you can see the hand work used in sinking the numbers. A primary exam coin made by early pioneers.
It is a Double Briquet struck by Marie of Burgundy at the Antwerp
mint in Brabant. Today the location would be in Belgium. The date,
1479 is at 11:00 on the left image. The "4" looks like a bow tie or
ribbon. The "7" is an upside down "V". Even though this is a relatively
common piece, several hundred known, coins with dates before the
year 1501 A.D. are very scarce or rare. Robert Levinson wrote the
"Red Book" version on these coins "The Early Dated Coins of Europe
1234-1500". He just finished a second edition. I enjoy collecting
these coins, lots of beauty and history. Part of my collection can be
seen here. Happy Birth Day!! https://www.cointalk.com/threads/pre-1501-ad-coins-with-dates.329064/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed:+cointalk+(CoinTalk+Update)
