Original Peace Dollars VS 2021

Overall, the Peace Dollar series has relaxed somewhat in recent years. With only four left to go to complete the series, I wonder if the prices will shoot up in the coming year? I would think that in 2021 they most certainly will as the public becomes aware as they have for the West Point releases. Any thoughts on by how much? For the time being I'm after the 1921, 1924s 1928 and 1934s before hand. In AU/MS, of course, to match.

Looking forward to the 2021. I hope the mint strikes one in .999 gold to match the three 2016's I currently hold.

There will also be the Morgan 2021 thrown into the mix, probably selling as a set too. I bet a gold version is also coming!

I would not expect any increase in Peace dollar prices. Common dates are simply too common. I can't imagine too many people deciding to put together series of them based on a one year commem. Especially when they see what an XF 28 looks like net to an 2021 in 69 or 70.

    Just my 2 cents.

    I agree.
    It likely won't spark demand.
Anyone who orders the 2021 Peace Dollar likely knows something about Peace Dollars.

Peace dollars in high grades have been relatively strong lately.

As others have said, a limited release commem is unlikely to affect the price of Peace dollars in any grade. The highest grade coins go to people intimately familiar with the series and the lower-grade coins exist by the millions.

It would be nice to see a 2021 Peace Dollar...full size silver.... For a coin that so often seems to be a series of only mild interest to most, good coins do command premium prices. Cheers, RickO

I expect the Mint will work from the original 1921 obverse cast, and a galvano enlargement of the Morgan-recut reverse (no sword, 1921 version).

    That would look great!!!!

Thanks for the input. I sort of thought the same, but with the Mint changing it's marketing strategy earlier this year it seems plausible that the same is forth coming as 2021 nears. Referencing the comment by BryceM, while higher grades are still relatively strong, the overall cost seems down about 5-10% from two years ago based on my local purchases. Since my collection consists of all PCGS MS63/64 I think a new influx of collectors may create an equal rise in the cost of the four I'm lacking. Then again, a shift in the market itself could do the same. Hopefully I'll have them by then.

    Thanks all!

Yes, just imagine! When the replica Mercury dimes, replica Standing Liberty Quarters and replica Walking Half Dollars were issued in 2016, they brought in billions and billions of new coin collectors!

Thank God they had mintages in the billions to satisfy the demand.

And the prices for original Mercs, original Standing Libs and original Walkers went to the moon! The moon, I tell you!

After witnessing, first hand, the Old San Francisco Mint silver dollar I think I'll pass.
