You made the right choice, as that 35-S is frosty, smooth and well struck up.

Glad you're keeping her. Big congrats!

That's quite a CAC tax on the MS64. I'd have to compare them side by side in the same light to determine which is the better deal. My first inclination is to buy the higher grade for less money.

Not the same coin. The 64 is a '35-S, while the 65 is a 35-P.

I wouldn't want to work on a set from pictures; instead since it is a buyer's market I would want to look through coins at auctions or have a trusted dealer with real aesthetic skills look for me for a 5% commission.

Disagree my price wb to high lol. CDN bid for the 35-s CAC is 600. An asking price of 825 is well below the industry standard of bid x 40 pct which is 840. Auction prices represent liquidation not retail. Considering how PQ the coin is I would not be surprised somebody asking 900 for retail. I have had no problem getting bid plus 50 pct on the bourse or online on really PQ material. Yes many won’t pay the money but others will for super PQ material. Look how high the toned shipwreck DE went for ($282k) which they were raving about awhile back.

I too add my congratulations. :) I'm thinking your '35-S PCGS 64 CAC dollar, once in hand, will look better and better to you each time you get it out to admire it. That kind of thing happens to coin people who appreciate the minter's art. That's exactly what's happened with some of my "O" mint Barber dimes that aren't even mint state... but that's another story...

Go for the PCGS 64 CAC

    A nicer coin.

by miles, a no brainer. That 65 will never get a bean as is either.

The price on that coin ain't chicken feed, or millet, PF! It is a great coin worthy of an upper crust set of Peace Dollars.

It's my opinion, but if I was too look, I would also purchase that coin.

I prefer the PCGS as well, but I would suggest waiting for a PCGS/CAC coin in MS65. It's bit more costly, but much more in line with your preferences.

But the PCGS 64 CAC coin is essentially a gem. Want to price this coin here's what you'll see in the PCGS Price Guide. Is this not the bible for PCGS graded coins? …

    1935-S
    MS64-$600 MS64CAC-??? MS65-$900

and for the 1935 with no mintmark
    MS64-$200 MS65-$550

About a $300 spread for each coin going from 64 to 65

My opinion is that the NGC coin is really just an ordinary 64 in PCGSLand.

Well cardinal, I join you in being happy that Paradise chose the PCGS64CAC for her collection. :)

Looks like I'm a little late to this party, but I would have chosen the PCGS coin also. The nic on the ngc coin just really hits you in the face at first glance.

Thank you all for stop-n by .... I will post the coin in hand soon.

Will not flip this coin ...... she will be in my possession until I become a grand mother one of these decades.
The cost of $630 was discounted from $700 from orig. listing and with the purchase I earned $50 eBay bucks :)

Just curious, what was main reason(s) for your choice?

Those Trueviews really tell the story about this coin. It's real PCGS grade should be MS 66?

The first thing to do is ignore the CAC sticker, that's just someone else opinion.
The important thing is which one do you prefer.

I've owned a bunch of Peace dollars in these grades and I really like this 35-S as a 64, at least from the photos. How much you paid isn't so important as long as you're aware of what similar coins are selling for.

As others have said, these aren't so rare in 64/65 grades and it would be worth your while to work with a good dealer if you're wanting really nice Peace dollars. The suggestion to have Mark Feld preview them for you is a very good one, but he jokingly (I hope) always gave me a hard time about looking at what is perhaps not his favorite series(???)

Send me a PM if you'd like my take on the dealers who specialize in these.

Finally, congrats on a nice coin!

Since I got my copy of Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook by Miller out, I thought it might be interesting to take note of some of Miller's comments about mint state 1935-S dollars....

"The typical 1935-S has excellent luster, and is much more boldly struck than most "S" mint Peace dollars, although some pieces will be softly struck. Gems with minimum abrasions are available. The 1935-S ranks just slightly behind the 1925-P, in the author's opinion, as the most consistently high-quality Peace dollar produced at any of the three mints.

Included with the hoard of 1934-S dollars discussed previously was a rather large quantity of 1935-S dollars. As with the former, the quality of these 1935-S dollars was exceptional. The majority were fully struck, with frosty, coruscating luster and minimum abrasions.

The Redfield hoard contained a small quantity of BU 1935-S dollars. However, unlike the majority of mint state dollars of this date, most were poorly struck.

A minor reverse design change was introduced for the minting of some 1935-S dollars. On these coins a fourth ray was added below ONE, and a seventh ray was added below the eagle's tail. This variety is of approximately equal rarity with the previous design.

Although the 1935-S does not appear to be overly scarce in mint state, the general excellence of specimens of this date has made the 1935-S a favorite of collectors and investors alike."

    Wayne Miller

Having "frosty, coruscating luster" describes Paradise's 1935-S in addition to being fully struck with minimum abrasions.

A synonym of "coruscating" is "showy," using the jargon for a nice mint state piece back in the day.
"Flashy" is another word that was commonly used.:)
