Is this new version of Forum Software vulnerable??

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

There seems to be things happening with the forum lately that point to a vulnerability, either in the Software being able to be penetrated or a reflection of the moderation style. I have been here since 2002 and never remember this number of suspected alts, problems with new members and Spam coming in via PM and even some in threads. I know it sound harsh, but it's almost like the site has been targeted.

None of that sounds like a software issue. It could be with summer vacations (or other demands on people's time) that they're not "wasting' as many hours on moderation as they typically did.

Or did you think spam magically was detected and removed by a robot overlord?

Certainly the PM spam is a new angle.... Spam via new posters has long been an issue...most due to newbie error, but quite a few intentional. Perhaps we will get a general comment on the PM spam from Heather.... Cheers, RickO

correct, which is why I offered another cause in the OP body. my reasoning for asking about the software is simply because I have no memory of so many similar problems and so much spam as what has been going on recently.
