I know it's not silver and I doubt it's an error other than the filled mint mark. I just don't know what's wrong with this dime it's a totally different color and and feels like a different metal than dimes of that era. Any advice or any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Maybe a proof? I dunno i took side by sides with a 76 just so you can see the difference.

First of all, there are no 75-D proof coins.

Next, weigh it. If the weight is within specs, which I suspect it is, it's the correct planchet.

Third. Coins take different journeys in their lives. They encounter different things, including different chemicals. They will tone and wear differently. Nothing rare, unusual or abnormal about that.

I don't see anything unusual in that photo.

I agree. Discolored is all. Looking at the edge for the layers will help confirm this.

It is discolored (the reasons for this could be many), and shows wear....I have seen dimes with that discoloration when found metal detecting.... Though it could be due to other reasons..Cheers, RickO

  • I figured it was post mint damage it's just weird there is no bumps around the edge despite it bwing in good condition and it makes quite a different sound when clinked against another coin also I can't weigh it my scale isn't that sensitive :/
