In Tennessee it's "nickle" especially if you live near one of those whiskey storage buildings - fumes. ;)

  • not too darn far off

Nice find, but Io agree it looks polished.

Yes...'nickel'....Nice Buff, but certainly looks polished... If you did that, stop...do not do it again....you could destroy a valuable coin.... Cheers, RickO

  • i understand now about cleaning. have seen those comments more than any other about collecting over the last couple months. wish i had before i spiffed up my 1907. used Never Dull on it. won't do it again promise

That Indian cent is not the worst (best?) cleaning job I have seen. The circulation gunk is still in the protected areas so I wonder if you carried it around in your pocket for a time if the surface would wear down past the cleaning?

  • i was wondering the same. how do I right this wrong? only time can do it.
so i sit on it another twenty years.

There have been discussions/debates over the years if it is possible to "wear down" a cleaned coin so that it no longer is "cleaned".

I think sometimes the damage can never be undone, but yours does not look too far gone. But I am no expert on the process. I guess you can mimic circulation and see what happens (handling, carrying in your pocket with other coins, etc.).
