I bought this 1853 half cent from a pawn shop, I did not notice it was altered until I got it home. The alteration is what makes it one of my favorite coins (how can you pick just one favorite?)
I believe this alteration to be period to the piece, perhaps during the civil war. I think it is impressive what David Hooton was able to do with such a small area to work with.
Here is a prototype of a counterstamp I will be making this summer for my Hawaii trip later this year. I'll probably bring 40 of them (or something similar) to spend, so keep your eyes open.
WELCOME BACK PF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So great to see you! How are you? How is Mango? Everyone has been posting amazing coins for you. Here is one of my faves as it was minted to signify Eagles coming off the endangered species list.
Hey babe, nice to see you back in action. Just in time for hurricane season!
So this is from my first post on this board, and it is still the most favorite coin that I own. Cleaned, yes. But wow, what a strike! Better than all of the 20c proofs I own, and most that I have seen. Better strike than any 1875-S BF-1 currently in BMP or SP holders. Damn, the details on the claws and denticles always make me smile.

@KindaNewish . Ya'll guys are breaking out the big guns! I love it but, where do you find this stuff???
So this is what a great strike looks like! And yes I'm stuck starring at the denticles as well.
Well, that was certainly an underwhelming response to your C o N t E s T !!!!!
(welcome back PF!)
I'll match your Carrs and raise you one! (actually two oz)...
With bonus fireworks!!

This is my current favorite (subject to change without notice). My apologies on the pics, she is off getting retrofitted and a glamour shot

Just Wow!
Hey you.
This is one of my favorite. History, coolness, and it is toned and isn't a "common" bn, or even common rb or rd.
